Well it's hard to build on that without repeating, because so much of it is so very true ... but as for me, I love his sense of humour, the way he leads his crew without being proud, his kindness, his talent, and yep, definitely the way he treats his fans (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif)

Amen to him being SO very pretty! But of course I appreciate him for other reasons as well.....his phenomenal acting ability for one, which leads into my top reason...
He brought Mal to life. And without our captain where would we be? Nathan is extremely outgoing and has led the crew both on screen and off. You just have to love him. |

There is one, actually, called "Movie Discussion", though I think our Nathan Appreciation has become markedly less Serenity-centric since its inception, so it may not matter. Then again, spoiler warnings are a pain. As for Nathan... I appreciate him for being a fan himself. It shows. |

Well, to repeat and reiterate:
Amazing actor. He should be a huge huge star, and I've no doubt he will be. There's a load of talent in that pretty package. So very funny. Lovely to look at. Did I say that already? Sort of. Oh well, bears repeating. Humble and grateful about Firefly/Serenity. When he says it was the best job he ever had on the Firefly extras, you can see he's telling the truth. Just made me all the sadder it was gone then. Of course, that was Pre-BDM and the inevitable sequels to come. Sweet. Genuine love for his flans, uh, fans. My own little personal Love Nathan moment: At Flanvention, after our photo-op, he told me I smelled great and asked what my perfume was so he could get some for his girlfriend. <sigh> What's not to love about this man? I'm here! Very sorry to lose our old thread, and for that matter all the history on the old site. I guess this could be a good thing, since now we get to relish raving over Nathan all over again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) I'm going to try to archive some of the best messages and pics from that thread on my serenityverse.com site if I have time before the site goes down, because I enjoyed being able to read them.

Because of this totally awesomely nice post he made this week to "PhoebeJeebies" on the late 'Versal board:
Of course I read these, and of course I remember you, Phoebe. You were shaking so hard you could have mixed a tin of paint. You were sweet and quiet and your compliments made my day. You are my favorite kind of fan. Don't even get me started on the "gropers". Brrrrrr. I don't think anyone in Hollywood cares about their fans like that! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif) On top of it, this was after taking time on Christmas Eve to tell us (among other good thoughts): Be well, Browncoats. Aim high, as we have all learned that nothing is impossible (except getting Jewel and Morena to stop fighting over who is prettier when we all know it's me). Happy Holidays. Oh, also, I have to admit I like someone who has so much fun keeping up a running battle to flip off a co-worker! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_razz.gif) |

This is a subject I can get behind. I appreciate all of the cast of course, who bring a special uniqueness to their characters but since it's a Nathan-centric thread ... I can't talk about his personal qualities, except for his kind Seasons Greetings post over at the other website, which in my book makes him a heck of a human being; I haven't met him at a convention so my opportunity to talk about "those eyes" or "those lips" are out (I actually like to check out a man's hands). Nathan the actor? Aces. Mr. Fillion handles the complexity of a man who is alternately intractable as an old man, as tragic as Hamlet, as sardonic as F. Murray Abraham playing Salieri, as charming as Clark Gable wooing Scarlett O'Hara, as trigger happy as the Clantons and as funny/sweet as the Little Tramp with ease. His bravura scene in Serenity, or one of them I should say, in which he orders the ship painted red and anyone who wanted to follow him to get aboard or get out of his way (paraphrased) made me want to cheer and at the same time my blood ran cold. That's acting.

I completely adore reading Nathan's messages! They always make my day, and the fact that he actually does post and interact with us a bit earns him my undying loyalty and affection.....so unlike your typical "movie star."
This post is part old, part new...I copied a bunch of the things I wrote in the old thread to save on inevitable typing:) Consider this a mini-archive. I'm a huge fan of Nathan's. As I posted on the original thread, I'm not a very starstruck kind of person...can't say I'd go out of my way to meet a Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise, and if I did meet a big star it would be a pretty casual "hmm, that was cool" sort of thing. But I would be truly honored to meet Nathan one of these days, and even more so to get to know him a little. I doubt that'll ever happen, but it's a nice feeling to know that the actor who plays my favorite character of all time is someone I can also care about as a person. I'll be here watching from the sidelines, cheering him on in his career, and saying a little prayer here and there for him. There are many actors I enjoy watching and will seek out on screen. But Nathan's the first and only actor I think I could truly call mysef a "fan" of. He's actually a nice, friendly, decent human being, and even more importantly he's not afraid to let that show. I loved the Mal character from the very beginning, but learning more about Nathan really adds so much; I completely adore Mal because of him. I'm pretty used to hearing of actors having personal, emotional, and attitude problems (and don't think I'm bashing actors, I know all humans have flaws), so I really tend to seperate who they play on screen from any feelings about who they might be in real life, and I don't expect or need to hear anything good about the real person. I would have liked Mal even if he'd been played by a jerk. But it is amazing how loyal I feel to Mal and to Nathan knowing that Nathan seems to ge a genuinely good guy......and good grief, he posts to our forum! Watching Nathan in interviews when he's not in character and on the gag real made me fall competely in love:) Being a DVD special features junkie, I've seen a ton of actors doing DVD interviews about their work; it's pretty interesting seeing them out of character. Some of them are obviously still acting, some come across as pretty cool, and many others seem arrogant, or sleezy, or not so bright. But Nathan seems so funny, and human and intelligent and sweet that he won me over completely. Knowing that he loved the series himself and really enjoys his "crew" in real life really adds a lot. Many of my favorite Mal scenes are those where I imagine that we're seeing Nathan's personality coming through; the happy, funny, kind moments. He's a great actor...he has the ability, not just to portray something, but to get you to feel it right along with him. When he's happy, you're happy. When he's hurting, you're hurting. When he's amused, you're amused. Firefly would not have been what it was without Nathan Fillion. He's able to completely sell everything from comedy to heartbreaking drama, and can make you feel for and empathize with his characters more than any actor I've ever seen. I've often wondered how Nathan manages to draw you in so completely to the character. Why, when I'm watching him, do I feel not like I'm watching an actor play a part but instead, a real person I care deeply about? I know darn well it's not just because I think he's handsome.....there are many really good-looking actors out there that I've drooled over plenty, but I've never been emotionally affected by a character in this way. I realized that most actors only really act with their faces and their voices. Nathan acts with his whole body, and does so utterly convincingly. I first really noticed this when Simon gives Mal the shot at the beginning of Serenity. Mal's expression doesn't change much and his arm doesn't really move (realistic, if you were a tough guy in the middle of an arguement!), but the muscles in the rest of his body contract involuntarily (something has to go "ouch!"). The end result is a really, really believable scene of Mal getting a shot. When he and the crew are walking off the ship at Haven after greeting the shepherd, you can see the ease and relaxation in his stride and the entire way he carries himself. I don't think I've ever seen a more heartrendingly convincing portrayal of a man in pain than Mal standing up and walking away with the compression coil in out of gas, and there are moments in War Stories that I simply cannot watch without closing my eyes. Seeing Mal in that doesn't feel like watching a torture scene in a movie (in all fairness I always have a hard time watching those!)...... it makes me want to kill Niska, rescue my friend, and patch him up and comfort him. When he is walking through Serenity after converting her into a reaver ship, and when he leans against the doorway almost breaking down in tears, he is holding himself up, steadying himself, by holding and leaning on parts of the ship. It completely sells the fact that he is almost overwhelmed with grief, the weight of everything that has happened and what he has been forced to do. One of many performances of his that makes me cry every time. When he is talking to the Operative over the cortex after seeing the images of the destroyed settlements, his whole body is rigid. It looks as though every muscle in his body is struggling to restrain himself, to control his emotions and avoid letting the operative know he's gotten to him. He's supurb at acting with his facial expressions and his voice....and I'm starting to think that the fact that he literally throws his whole body into the part is what makes him so human and believable. I'm seriously thinking that Nathan has to be the most versatile actor I've ever seen. He's so amazing at dramatic stuff that he could have a great career based on that alone. During the rare moments when we see him play sweet and tender, I know he'll be able to knock romantic comedy right out of the park. And seeing the Firefly extended gag real, and hearing about his antics at the flanvention as well as on the Serenity gag reel makes me think he was born to do comedy. As I type this, I just can't fathom why Nathan isn't a gorram superstar yet! I fully acknowledge that my obsesed viewpoint could be a bit skewed in his favor, but come on! Look at the competition:) Tom Cruise??? Ben Affleck?? Orlando Bloom?? Bruce Willis?? Nathan's got all the household names beat. He loves Firefly/Serenity just as much as any of us (and quite possibly more).! He's an incredibly funny guy with a natural comedic ability. The man is hilarious....need I say more? He's jaw-droppingly handsome....whenever anyone asks me what "my type" of guy is now, I just answer "Nathan Fillion." Hands down the most attractive actor out there, and come to think of it the most attractive man I've ever seen. He's all kinds of pleasin' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif) [b]He's my favorite actor in the world, and he plays Mal, my favorite character ever invented. I know this is a Nathan discussion and not a Mal discussion so I'll try not to stray too far off track here, but bear with me for a moment:) Mal's loyalty really gets to me, especially coming from a character who has been through so much. He could easily be someone who just hates everybody and trusts no-one, which makes his loyalty and love for his crew and his ship incredibly moving. One of the many Firefly moments that really touch my heart is the end of War Stories, when Mal is back on the ship. The reassuring way he takes Kaylee's hand as he's limping up the stairs gets me every time. The fact that he's been through complete hell, and he's showing concern for Kaylee and not himself really hits me emotionally. After all that, he's still holding his crew together. |

I've been a fan of his since his days on two guys and a girl...that show was great, and it was hard not to notice him and his comedic talents! Then I noticed him in Dracula 2000, and while I liked the movie, he just made it better!
Why I appreciate Nathan...he's a fan of the work, which is so important because you invest so much of your energy into something like Firefly, and to know that there are people who are right there with you, perhaps even more so because they're the ones bringing it to you, that is genuine and very commendable. He's very pretty. I like that he's got a great sense of humor, and has a good perspective on acting -- you won't see him being way too busy for fans. Did I mention that he was oh so pretty? |

What can I say that hasn't already been said about our wonderful Cap'n! When I saw the commercials for "Firefly" on that evil network whose name I shall not dirty this thread with, I noticed him immediately and he made me want to watch the show He's one of the big reasons I fell in love with it from the start. He brought depth to a character that lesser actors would have made stiff and one-dimensional. Then I started hearing about fan encounters with him, reading his posts on different sites, hearing about his appearences at conventions, etc., and discovered he's also a wonderful person who is truly thankful to his fans, something that is becoming more and more rare among celebrities these days. And of course, he's so very pretty--those blue eyes, boyishly handsome face, and lets not forget that perfect rear-end! Heck, even my 65-year-old mom thinks he's a cutie; I sent her my copy of "Water's Edge" and she said, "The movie wasn't that great, but that lead actor is so handsome!" Hope Nathan comes over to this site and checks it out--there'll always be good things about him to read if he's ever feeling down!

Hi guys! *waves* I actually couldn’t be bothered to sign up for this board until this thread moved. Yay for Nathan bringing us together! And may I say; I am very proud of all of us, his appreciators. I’ve been a part of some other celebrity’s fan boards (coughorlandobloombutyoudidn’thearthatfrommecough), and you are all so much more appreciative, without that creepy stalker-ish feel that can easily creep in. I am actually not embarrassed to know that he read our other thread! Think he’ll stop in here? QUOTE Nathan is just a big ol' sweetheart. He's probably the greatest hugger of the cast.
You lucky duck. Some of us will never have a chance to hug any of the cast. *cries a little*. QUOTE I smelled great and asked what my perfume was so he could get some for his girlfriend.
First off: Aaawwwww!!! Second: He has a girlfriend?!!?? Aaawww! How awesome! I hope she’s wonderful. So yeah. Why I appreciate Nathan Fillion in ten words or less: He is funny and loves firefly and makes me love Mal. Dang. That’s 11 words. Oh well! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif) |

Whew!! It was touch and go but I Finally made it! It's so great to see you guys over here. I'd hate to suddenly be left out in the cold with nowhere to appreciate Nathan like he ought to be. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) I think I'll repost my very first post here...
QUOTE I know, we could have one about every member of the crew. They all did a most excellant job. But right now I want to focus on Nathan.
I hope that Hollywood comes to appreciate what they have in Nathan Fillion. He's as cute as a bug in a rug, he can be intense, mean, scary, playful, funny, tender, shy, sly and in love. And he had some really great scenes in Serenity to prove it. He was my Dad's favorite character in the movie and my dad doesn't usually go to the movies. I thought Nathan was brilliant in letting us see Mal's desperation on Haven and how close he came to losing it on Serenity as they are traveling in Reaver territory. And his comic timing is impeccable. I really liked him as Mal in Firefly, but now... I think I'm in Luuuuv. LOL and add that I've had a blast talkin with you all these last months and seeing how much Nathan is appreciated. Not just because he's so damn pretty, but because he has the acting chops to back it up and is a pretty nice guy to boot. And the appreciatin' just don't stop. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) So let's start off here the way we begun.... (IMG:http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b161/imloco2/Fillion1.jpg) |

I love this fandom and all my fellow browncoats. And all this was possible for me cause Nathan has a nice ass. And I appreciate that. |

I hope the last post doesn't lower me to the level of "creepy." It's supposed to be funny, not scary or stalkery.
Since everyone here doesn't know me or my off-kilter humor, thought I should clarify. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif) Can I just say that it's horrifying to me that people take advantage of the opportunities of photo-ops and what have you and GROPE our BDHs. (or any celeb for that matter) Who are these freaks? WTH is that all about? Like they're public property or just meat or something. I do not get that. Okay, sorry for the mini-rant. I was just thinking about NF's post about gropers and it got my ire up. Again. Sorry to wander off-topic a bit. I'll quit the rambling now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif) |

I just appreciate his acting ability, sense of humor, and loyalty to Joss and the fanbase. The nibble-worthy ass never comes into play. I swear. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif)
