Full Version: 33+ Cities Prep June Charity Screenings
The Serenity Browncoats > Can't Stop The Signal > Can't Stop The Serenity - June 23rd theatrical Serenity screenings
Pages: 1, 2
theonetruebix
Since early January, we've been inviting Browncoats to organize same-day, worldwide screenings of Serenity to be held on June 23, all to benefit Joss' favorite charity -- an event we've therefore dubbed Serenity Now/Equality Now.

As Of 05 May 2006:
33+ Cities (In 5 Countries, On 3 Continents) Planning Charity Serenity Screenings

If you don't see your city listed, it might be up to you to make one happen. There is no central authority doling out screenings to these cities. It is entirely up to fans on the ground to organize a screening where they live.

We are awaiting further information on possible organizing taking place in Buffalo NY (USA), Chicago IL (USA), Richmond VA (USA), Leeds (England), London (England), and somewhere in Georgia (USA). If you are responsible for any of these and they should be considered as "pre-planning" and included above, please contact us.

Note: The ideal remains either coordinated same-day screenings on June 23, or screenings on days during the week leading into that day, in order to be able to announce the grand total on Joss' actual birthday. If you absolutely, positively, cannot find a way to avoid selecting June 24 you will still be included as part of this effort.

No, my city isn't participatin' and no I don't want to make it one....I'm not qualified for such an undertakin'. However, I would definitely purchase tickets for a screenin' were one organized. Anyone willing to take this on in Raleigh, NC?
theonetruebix
You know, there really aren't qualifications beyond, say, motivation. ;)

If you got involved, you just might be very surprised at the response. The Fresno Browncoats met on Wednesday to discuss the idea among our small group. The response was great. Now only two days later, we are up and running. It is fun, gratifying, and amazing all at the same time. People are coming out from nowhere to help.

Go to Can't Stop the Serenity for all the information you need to get started. All I did was show our group the FAQ from the above-mentioned site. We tossed around a few ideas and I got a strong sense of interest. Thursday I spent mostly on line and/or on the phone talking to Kirsten, the woman whose idea it was originally. I also posted on FFF.net and our local Yahoo! group. Kirsten's husband set up our email address and today, we received responses from three people who had seen my post and wanted to help. So we are on our way!

Any Fresno/Central Valley people out there who don't know the Fresno Browncoats exist, please go to the fresnobrowncoats Yahoo! group. Join there or email us at browncoats@silver-star.net and tell us you want to get involved.

If you decide to go for organizing a screening on the 23, do it with Browncoaty enthusiasm. You will be rewarded by a great sense of satisfaction. If you can't do that, find one in the planning stages and offer your services. If it's not possible to help in the planning and run-up to June 23, make it your mission to bring as many people as you can to the screening nearest you.

Anything we can do toward the effort will result in a memorable night (Serenity on the big screen again), a super birthday present for Joss, and money for Equality Now.

Shinymom

P.S. Thanks, theonetruebix for listing us!
Kurya
hey.
Yeah in terms of setting upa screening, we are going through the stages now, I hope we can pull it offf. One person is not enough, I am lucky someone else has chipped up support, and a few other shave mentioned of helping out. Which is great.
Echoing the need for help or volunteers, and the interest. For our screenin to really make it worth it, it would be nice if we have enough people to come to our screening. If any of you live in Montreal ,or near by, and willing to go to a screening on june 22/23rd, please let me know. You can click on the link for the Montreal Browncoats message board below or email me at prak80 at yahoo dot com . If I findd there is not enough interest, I will cancel the screening, which would be a shame.

Cheyenne, Wyoming is kinda a small population base to get our own screening going (not many theaters either). People around here need to go to Ft. Collins or Denver to do any real shopping anyway, so we can definally support a Denver screening.

I am still trying to negotiate w/ a theatre here in Richmond, VA. I have hit a couple of obstacles as I get shuffled from one person w/ the company to another.

I am swinging by an independent theatre (kind of small, but would meet our needs) this afternoon. I am going to see if I have better luck w/ them.

(First post updated with current info.)

FYI, 11 of these cities were among the 35 which hosted special advance screenings of Serenity on June 23 last year.

Good question, I actually thought they were one and the same, aren't I embarrased. Actually I guess it must be for the other thing. Though I will definately be going to the New York showing.

Someone added a Pasadena one! icon_biggrin.gif This is way cool, especially since I didn't see the BDM at the cinema before (kind of a newbie). Thank y'all SoCal BC's for making this happen. I will surely be there. Will try to bring a couple of neighbors who fell in love with the FF dvd's I gave them. This is really exciting!

No clue. But you might try the Richmond Browncoats:

http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/richmondbrowncoats/

and

http://www.richmondbrowncoats.org/

Or, for that matter, see if anyone is actually paying attention to the Carolina Browncoats group:

http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/CarolinaBrowncoats/

Also, I just found these:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Midatlanticbrowncoats/
"Anyone from New York to North Carolina, Delaware to West Virginia is welcome."

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SCFIREFLY/
"This group is for fans of the late great TV show Firefly residing in the state of South Carolina."

(Yes, I know, wrong Carolina, but you never know.)

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/browncoats_SENC/
"A FIREFLY / SERENITY fan (flan) group for BROWNCOATS living in Southeastern North Carolina (Wilmington Area) and Northeastern South Carolina (Myrtle Beach) , all points in between , and everywhere in the 'Verse !"
Lioness
Toronto's planning is coming along. We just need to reach out to those Canadian Browncoats who don't know it's happening! You can see details at our yahoo group.
Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver are also beavering away .

That's kinda how I felt but I'm trying to get one together. I too was pushed to it like that (thank you all) and trust me it sounds difficult but so far it hasn't been.

Yeah *laughs*. I am a mouse. I am quite (exept on here), shy, nervous, anxious, have problems talking with people, am a procrastinator, lazy, like to hide, and don't like a lot of responsiblity. I'm trying to get one together. I was unsure of my bieng able to pull this off or not do it justice and I still am. If I can at least try to one of these things together, anyone can. Time for a little story. I wore a browncoats t-shirt to a pizza place and the second the waitress (waitresess have a hard job, doesn't look hard to some but it is hell to be a waitress. Be nice and tip good) saw the shirt icon_mrgreen.gif ! We spent the whole time talking about Firefly and Serenity. I put up a thread on here under Shindigs and so far a few people posted and have helped a great deal (thank you guys so much). This thing has power. Mab said to me "post it, they will come", they did.

thanks for the links ..... gotta round up some browncoats

No problem. I'm gonna try to have it in a theater in this huge mall and I'm gonna pass out flyers around to all they stores maybe try to have some on the walls of the movie theater, post it on a thread here icon_biggrin.gif. people will come!

You can add Auburn Hills, Michigan to the preplanning list for JUNE 23.

That would be me, if I can get the preferred venue to return my message so I can give them the full Portland-specific pitch (since there are some useful pieces of information that are unique to Portland's position).

28 cities scheduled or planning. A smattering of others (in the paragraph below the listings) that I think, some of which anyway, should probably be moved into the list as pre-planning. Made it 5 countries (ditching "UK" and using "England" and "Scotland" instead.)

I'm not coordinating. I'm being Anonymous as usual. Coordinating/Anonymous don't go together.

Where was that post about Georgia Browncoat wanting to organise a screening. Deep buried in this
