We have witnessed, in the past years, the increasing role of men - husbands, fathers, human rights activists - who are bravely fighting, within their culture, to end violence and discrimination and who are speaking out to ensure that dignity and justice are ensured for all women and girls. We are also honoring men who are committed to social change through the media and film. Joss Whedon will be our Special Honoree at the event for his outstanding commitment to gender equality through film and television.

The event on May 15 in New York. Details and booking here. It's a fantastic event for a good cause.

Amen to that and thanks Gossi! icon_biggrin.gif

Cool.

But: ARG. It's on a Monday!
Askama
but it's early, an afterwork kind of thing I think....not a long drawn out thing...
NYPinTA
Well, it wouldn't be so bad for me if I lived 150 miles closer to the city. icon_wink.gif I'm tempted.
Askama
oooh, that is kind of far for a Monday night. Bummer. LOVE that banner though!!!
Vex Viper
New York is too far for me. I hope they can tape it so the rest of us poor bastards can see it.

Well, I don't know if this means much, but until I joined the other Serenitymovie site, I had never heard of Equality Now. So... I'm at least one more person that because of him is aware of them and what they do. *shrugs* But I am sure his effect is much broader then that.
Askama
This is true for many people, I'm sure. Equality Now is small and more grassroots than the big behemoths of Amnesty and Human Rights Watch. And they focus on violence and discrimination against women and girls so their resources go to supporting grassroots groups who are working in their own communities to stop human rights violations against women. Joss' public support of Equality Now has galvanized many browncoats to support them, too - and for this they are very grateful. Hopefull they will tape it!!!
NYPinTA
Will he be speaking at all or just in attendence? Just curious.
Askama
speaking too I understand.
Aver
This is great because I have seen on other boards people saying Joss only likes skinny girls and has a foot fetish! I've seen other comments about the kinds of females he picks for his stories, and non of them good, but I just dont see that at all.

In fact I see alot of respect for women from Joss, and this event might put them nasty rumors to bed once and for all.

Way to do Joss!
Vex Viper
Those people are just jeolous. I like all the girls he picked for firefly, they're all hawt icon_razz.gif Well except that one old lady on that one planet that tried to kill Mal and Zoe. I met a lady like that once, and she was a mean old b#$t

And the 300dpi Photoshop file from which that logo originates can be found on the "Promote" page of the site linked by the banner in my sig, if'n anyone needs it.
