So, we've had a bit of a face lift. Or rather, a feature lift I suppose. It's like the old site, but with a bit more money behind it - like the movie version of the ship, I suppose.
Amuse thyself: log in and check the options in 'My Controls' near the top to start your own blog (think web diary). Or picture gallery. Check out the "Cortex news" under "Official 'verse news" to see the stream of news about the 'verse from across the interweb.
Also, you can now attach actual pictures and documents to posts. Yes, we've caught up to the 20th Century. Or the 21st Century. Whichever it is.
Have fun. Make some noise. And leave my donuts alone, hello.

Do I have to re-find and re-enter all the topics I was watching on the old one? I gather either they don't get imported into my topic tracker list, or maybe that import hasn't happened yet?

I suspect you'll need to readd them. I didn't even know you could watch things on the old forum

Ok, apparently I have some bugs on my end to work out regarding being able to quote messages, heh. Anyway, there was no direct topic tracking page on the phpBB version, but there was the ability to watch topics and have alerts sent when new messages were sent to them.
I guess I just assume people's lists of watched topics were going to import. Heh.

Quoting is funny. You press "Quote" next to one - or more - posts and then press Reply at the bottom.
Result: you can quote multiple people at the same time.

Let me know if you figure out links in the the sigs as I noticed mine were broken too...
also, I was wondering if we can edit posts from pre-upgrade or not? I had two threads where I was updating the top post with a list of CafePress shops for folks, I can restart the threads, just wanted to know if I should ...

Pretty gorram smart, if you ask me! It took me a while to work out where the reply button was for my first post, but I am getting the hang of it. I don't like the font colours, I guess I will just have to get used to posting in the set font, instead of my ususal Brown. Also some of the buttons are a little hard to read, but I guess we will all adjust.

Well, bung across suggestions about things like that (PM good, and enabled now). To be honest, I've doing all the design, and I'm
so not a designer.

I really like it. Change is good.

A lot of the changes are about creating more buzz. The entire site is 'open' now, which slows member numbers, but is about reaching out to people via search engines and stuff. Galleries attract random google users, as do Blogs. The forums here are now available via 'RSS' feeds, which means other sites can include content from users here - and we can include content from other sites here (see the Whedonesque coverage in the 'Cortex' forum - more to come).
Basically, it's about making noise. I want people to see this community is still around. At the beginning of this year, this site
should have died. Motion picture companies do not give websites to fans. Websites don't ressurect themselves like this in movies - not ever. Except now. Universal have both done an excellent thing for the community, and I believe we can all - quite easily - generate buzz, if the site is set up properly.

Hey, Gossi! Thanks for everything--I think the site is shiny with lots of cool new bells and whistles. The new layout will take some getting used to for those of us averse to change, but we'll all get there.
Also wanted to say thanks for the personal email messages sent out. Of course, I already new it was coming, and was chomping at the bit all Sunday a.m. waiting to get back on here and get my fix, but the email messages that got sent out were appreciated. Direct email from gossi is a classy touch!

The link in my signature is still broken... I've tried re-inputting and saving it, both with the bulletin board button for inserting a link, and using standard HTML code. Neither one works. However... I have noticed that a link in one of my pre-changeover posts IS still good. Go figure.
Whatever, whenever... at any rate, thanks, Gossi, for all your hard work. Lookin' good!
