Serenity was presented the 2006 Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form earlier this evening at LAConIV.

Congratulations to Joss and all the cast and crew for such an incredible movie that continues to garner praise and awards, and makes it so easy to recruit many new Browncoats.

It is really beginning to baffle me how a movie and the associated artists involved can receive award after award, and accolades all around, and yet the people who control the purse strings can't see to think of a way to put this story back out here for more consumption and enjoyment by the people who appreciate what it is all about (I know I'm preaching to the choir here - I just need to vent).

With all of the dissapointing and insulting crap that is coming out of Hollywood, and the headlines reading about how studios are scrambling to generate income, you would think that the slow and steady sure source of Browncoat dollars would be appealing? If DVD sales are where this thing gets its power, then what is wrong with straight to DVD? They know that every Browncoat out there will buy at least 5 copies and pass them out to friends, family and total strangers walking down the street. Plus, who knows HOW many new Browncoats were generated by seeing the movie, buying the BDM DVD, then buying the FF DVD's? And how many of THEM are not here on this forum talking about it?

<exasperated sigh... end rant>

Well, anyway, congratulations to Serenity for another award and another example of respect from everyone but the people with the money.

Morena Baccarin accepted the Hugo award! (Also, Jane Espenson announced the short form--and tried hiding her disappointment when a couple Dr. Who episodes won over Battlestar Galactica's "Pegasus.")

I had such a great time at WorldCon--it was fantastic to finally see the Ariel Ambulance for myself! It was great to see such Browncoat excitement--and the curiosity of the uninitiated, too! Many thanks to Mark for the customized trailer, Paul for driving the ambulance from Minter Field Air Museum to WorldCon, all those who helped unload and clean up the ambulance at the Con, Tammy for letting us borrow her Simon costumes, and Damien for driving the ambulance away to Las Vegas!

Also, lots of love to the Vegas locals who will unload and assemble the ambulance before the museum loses interest and kicks her out! *nudge*nudge*

Well, I think that we, the Browncoats, have. But I'm biased (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif)

Thank you for posting that, TVChick (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)

A wonderful speech, read by a lovely lady. Of course, die-hard BCs like us will try to read "messages" into it, but the only thing that sounded like a "heads-up" almost had a negative tone: "...Bringing Serenity, however briefly, to the screen". This doesn't exactly scream "I expect to make a sequel". So I'll pretend that it can't be spun that way, and keep my hopes up.

It's things like this and feeling like this that make our efforts in The Anniversary Job that much more important. If we get Universal to sit up and take notice, Joss will have a chance to tell 'em, "See? We HAVE the audience; let's make another Movie!" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif) TD/Tim
