I don't know why everyone dislikes Heart of Gold; it's one of my favorites. Can't beat a good sex scene! Mal! Sex! What more do you want?
My least favorite is Safe. Too many weird plot holes.

I wanted to clarify that although the question was for the least favourite, none of the episodes is my least favourite at all. I think maybe because there was more of the story taking place on land in Jaynestown than on Serenity out in the 'verse. Also, I thought the statue looked more like Peter Graves from the original Mission Impossible TV series than it did Jayne. If the series and/or movie are ever re-lit, maybe Graves could play Jayne's father. (Is Peter Graves still alive? Yes, I wondered that until I recently saw him in a geico insurance commercial.)

Why are some of the episodes listed in twos?

Ariel is probably my least favorite, but I really enjoyed War Stories, so I don't see how they're related and why they have to be together.

Well, I really love all of the episodes and i'm only doing this to get 500 post so I can start a group/team. I dont really likeHeart of gold because mal sleeps with that other companion/whore, but over all, The story of the episode and how the crew of Serenity saves,"The House of Whores." Over all, I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

I actually have no problem with Mal sleeping with Nandi in Heart of Gold. In almost all ways, she is a lot like Mal. Yes, he gives Inara a hard time because of what she does, but as he has said, "the lie of it." Nandi doesn't lie about what she does. She's independent. She's also fiercely loyal to her girls, just like he is the crew and she won't let anyone take what is hers, just as Mal tried to do during the war. Why wouldn't he want to sleep with her? She's freaking perfect for him! And I never took Inara's reaction as hypocrisy either. She isn't crying because Mal slept with someone. She's crying because MAL slept with someone. For him to do that means that there was more then just a physical attraction because that's just how stupidly noble Mal is.
Having said all that, I can see why some people might not like that episode.

My least favorite episode... I think is Bushwhacked. But by the tiniest of margins. A smidge. Barely perceptible. It just isn't a go to episode when I just want to watch one or two, you know? And even though I love 90% of The Message, the cringing opening with Simon and Kaylee makes me hesitate when I decide I want to watch it. Poor stupid Simon. I sometimes actually cover my eyes when he starts to say the wrong thing. LOL. I know I can't change what he says by hollaring at the TV, "Don't say it! Don't say it!" but... I can't help it. That goober.

So, Bushwhacked it is. Barely.
Edit: but I won't be voting because it's paired with Our Mrs. Reynolds which gets funnier every time I watch it.

It was a hard choice, but I chose "Ariel" and "War stories" because of the greatest mistake you can ever do in an action-based movie: leaving the bad guys alive! Niska survived War Stories - alright, maybe he was supposed to be a troublemaker in later series and still can be. And the "Blue Hand Group" in Ariel, these corrupt and sadistic little bastards, weren't even scratched in this episode.

You have an episode, you have bad guys - you kill them!

Objects in Space

All in all, a good episode, but Early ruins it for me with his constant (I wanna be Samuel L. Jackson) ramblings. I really wish someone would just hit him in the head with a cinder block and get it over with.

That about sums it up for me too. Not a bad episode, just didn't like Early. He started out just a little too creepy for me and ended up just a little too annoying.

Objects in Space

I didn't like this episode because I thought the characterization of River was all wrong.

Throughout the series, River was barely coherent. Then, in this episode, suddenly not only is she entirely coherent but she rises to save the day.

This episode seems misplaced given how River had always been portrayed in all previous episodes ... this episode should have happened *much* later in time ... say in a third season (had that come to pass).

You've got a good point, weichi. That always struck me as a rather large leap in River's recovery process.

The Message, but not because I'd think it's bad or low quality. I can't help think that they're burying Firefly in the funeral scene it the end. I also find Tracey's cowardice and bertrayal upsetting. Which is not a bad thing really - a story that provokes powerful emotions is a good story - I just don't enjoy watching the Message as much as I enjoy many other episodes.
Couldn't've said it better myself. I completely agree. I can't vote, though, because it's paired with Trash, and I love Trash (as strange as that statement may sound out of context).

I LOVE the way you put this, NYPinTA. I thought Inara's sobbing reaction finally showed the depth of the vulnerability that her feelings for Mal created in her, and evoked some sympathy for her from viewers that they may not have had before. So, there you are, feeling warm fuzzies for Inara, and then in a classic Joss twist, she announces she's leaving. After that glimpse at the intensity of her feelings for Mal, you understand why she's decided to leave, but that doesn't make the prospect of them never getting together suck any less. Not sure why some of the episodes are listed in pairs.

My least favorite was Bushwhacked. I really liked Our Mrs. Reynolds.

I voted for those two as the least favorite because I really don't like Bushwhacked.

C'mon, there are only 14 episodes...It's not like we are picking our least fave of ST:TNG.

For serious.

Well....I'm one of those folks that picked out of gas as my least favorite. Out of the whole series that is the one I liked the least, not sure why,but it didn't grab me like it seemed to do to everyone else.

Heart of Gold---might have made it if Out of Gas had been lumped together with something else. There were parts of that show I truly detested. I did not like the character of Nandi. She was too much like Mal,as if they just wrote Mal in a female character. Just didn't work for me.

The Message, but I couldn't vote due to liking Trash.

This is why I couldn't vote, because Trash was lumped in with The Message. Why were any of the episodes grouped together anyway?

Oh, and my least favorite episode...Trash! In all honestly, I still like this episode. It's funny, but the reason it's my least fav? When I saw it on TV, there were two extra moments that are not on the DVDs. One was a conversation between Zoe & Inara about Inara's chosen profession. Zoe says she could never get behind it because she couldn't fake it. Then, she says she only faked it once with Wash & he knew! Very cute scene between two characters who didn't have many scenes together. Also, in the group scene with Saffron, Zoe actually punches her before she says she agrees with the plan. Two of my fav. moments from the episode and they're not included in the DVD version. I only saw them once: It was the very first time the SciFi channel aired Trash and they included these moments. Why? I have no clue, but any time they've aired this episode since, they didn't include these scenes. I guess I just have a tiny bit a bitterness that these scenes are not available.

It was a flip-of-a-coin for me whether it was Train Job or Heart of Gold. Being that I liked all the episodes n'all.

However the above 2 had less than the usual mind-blowing scripts and dialogues than we know from the others. They were simply good.

Probably due to time restrictions imposed by an unimaginative audience (you-know-who-I'm-talking-about) and overly Magnificent-Seven reliant script which has been done to death in the last 20-30 years.

well, Safe and Objects in Space are the episodes I rewatch the least often - but not so sure they are actually my least favorite. I cannae really voice such a thing - it might anger the Verse gods and prevent a sequel or somesuch. Just too risky a proposition to say a thing like that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif)

All the comments about Heart of Gold were pretty much spot on - both in the reasons to love it and the reasons to love-it-less-than-all-others. It happens to be the episode I rewatched the *most* recently (as in tuesday night) and I have to admit that, while it was once in my top tier, I have since come to see its flaws and find them increasingly annoying.

~ I actually dislike that Petaleen shoots whatsisfeck at the end. Why the feck did Mal bring him back just to have him shot in the head, and not a person raises an objection, even after the fact? Not even Book?

~ The cutting off Nandi's remark to Mal about not realizing Inara felt the same is the *most annoying* scene in all of Firefly. It's so jarring, that it seems more like poor editing than poor script writing. And Mal didn't blink - not because this wasn't news to him, but because he had no clue what she was talking about! it was utterly out of context for her to say anything at that moment.

~ killing Nandi was just stupid - and its only service to the plot was to prevent her from explaining her comment about Inara to Mal. Like that makes any kinda sense. While others have expressed dislike for her character and her characterization, I thought that, like Saffron, Nandi could have been a great recurring character. So why kill her? To give Mal someone's death to be pissed about? grrrr. aarrrggg. I think we knew Mal well enough at that point that we didn't need his stoic response to her death rammed down our throats. It was, pardon the macabre pun, overkill.

* on the other hand, it does have many of what Firefly is best at = great fecking dialogue/one-liners. "You're my kind of stupid." "Were I not married, I would take you in a manly fashion. / Cause I'm pretty? / Cause you're pretty." "If they have guns or brains at all ... / They have guns." "Figures he'd get the most poetical about his pecker."

Least favorite, though? Can't rightly say that it is - as I feel morally bound to not have a least favorite. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif)

All of the episodes are 10's, but for me Heart of Gold is the lowest 10.

Someone said in another forum that there used to a 10-selection limit for polls. Perhaps that is why there are pairings.
