I've only been waitin' for this since DVD's came out...the international theatrical cut in all it's pristine glory, oh, and there'll be some cut with new footage and cleaned up FX too, in case you're interested...

I think it is appropriate that I will be getting the four-disc version, since this is the fourth time I will have bought this film. VHS, laserdisc, director's cut dvd before, now this one. It's possible I also bought it on Beta long ago in the Dark Ages, but can't remember. While I am looking forward to seeing the narrated version again after a very long time, I was never satisfied with that one, even originally in theaters.

I think I've got all the old versions, too. Fortunately I've got a daughter to whom I can give the earlier DVD versions. I may have already given the VHS away when I got one of the DVDs.

Counting days.

I've got the 5-disc version on order from Amazon.

I've only ever seen the original theatrical release edit.

The new cut without narration will be a bit of a shock then, when I saw the 'director's cut' without the narration, I heard it in my head anyway...

Back in '92 I got the VHS of the 'director's cut' and slapped it in, awaiting greatness, and I was like, uhhhh, there's no, uh, narration... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_eek.gif)
I immediately sold the tape to my video store because I felt the movie lost so much character without it.
Even if you know ahead of time, it will still seems weird seeing it for the first time IMO.

All I could do was watch him die Chrisisall

I bought that version of the tape, but when I took it out of the box I could see part of the tape hanging out with a big crease in it. I took it back to the store to exchange it, but they only had the theatrical release in stock. I've never seen the unicorn dream.

How many f-ing versions of this movie are they planning to release? It seems like every few months there's a new BR. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_confused.gif) ??:

I didn't watch Blackhawk Down over the weekend. I watched the Karloff Frankenstein (believe it or not, I'd never seen it before) and Broken Flowers.

I liked bits of it. I need to watch it again. I'm sure for the time it was something very different.

I thought it was funny that Mae Clarke played Frankenstein's fiancee--she's the actress who is famous for having a grapefruit shoved in her face by James Cagney in The Public Enemy.

really? I think it's SO MUCH better without the narration! I hate it when movies feel that you're too stupid to figure out what is going on and tell you everything.

We went and saw it in the theater last friday. There really isn't that much that has changed (Dora's retirement is nicer) but OMFG is it a beautiful transfer! Its like all these years we've been watching a crappy videotape copy and now we get to watch it on dvd.

I assume you are referring to the one called the "Final Cut" version. I just looked at the description of that over at amazon, and they make no mention of the original narration, so I am assuming it is just one version of the movie, the most recent re-edit by Scott. As much as I prefer the non-narrated "director's cut" as released in '92 (I think), I am getting the four-disc set since I have not seen the original theatrical cut with the narration in a very long time. I will probably watch that one first. For only ten dollars more you can get the multiple versions so you can make an informed decision as to which one is best.

I agree mrblue. Having read the book several times before the movie was even a gleam in Scott's eye, I did not need anyone telling me what was going on. I will concede it added a bit to the film-noirishness of the the story, but other than that it was superfluous.

Every version's offered something. I like it both with narration and without.

Just finished reading John Scalvi's funny-ish novel, The Android's Dream, which is about sheep. It really doesn't have anything to do with the Dick novel, except a nod to the title, but it's entertaining.

I'm with Ecgordon on this- the four disk set is the way to go, unless you don't care at all for the narration. It IS superfluous, but I like the flavour it adds.
