(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_sad.gif) Is this just for California or is it everyone? Did they get the rights from Fox or is there a distributor? I heard they sell out every month, why whould they cancel something that makes money for them?

QUOTE(Amillion2one @ Oct 10 2007, 03:08 AM) For the very same reason they've pulled all the firefly fanvids off Youtube...to piss us off so we'll rise again! Well, sorry, but it can't be for the exact same reason they're doing the crackdown on youtube. The youtube thing appears to be their periodic sweep of copyright violations and they're entirely within their rights to do so. On the other hand, the Criterion distribution deal was fully licensed with 20th Century Fox getting their 30 pieces of silver every time an episode was shown. Why cut off the money flow? I don't see a reason unless there's a deal in the works to get them even more money in the future. |

If they've got a C&D it'll be some kind of contract/licensing dispute, ultimately.

Just to update everyone: According to various sources, 20thCFox's entire deal with Criterion (including the Buffy Singalongs) has been suspended. However, this includes multiple TV shows besides Buffy and Firefly and appears to have more to do with renegotiations than anything more nefarious. Though I wouldn't put it past them.

The story I've heard is that the writers, actors, etc contracts do not cover anything other than tv showings and dvd sales. They need to re-negotiate for cuts to be going to the right people. Apparently.
The youtube thing is a legal issue. If they're not shown to assert their copyright, they can lose it. |
