The Serenity Browncoats _ Official 'verse news _ Serenity -- Special Edition Dvd

It's too early to be sure what the Special Edition will contain, but here are some things we're going for:
NEW KEY ART.
Cast commentary -- assuming I can get a decent number of them in one room. They're very busy people, I'm happy to say.
NEW KEY ART.
The region 4 goodies, obviously.
The Tam Sessions.
KEY NEW ART.
New Yub Yub, and Greedo shoots first. So does that kid outside the trading station, the pilot who destroyed Haven, and Kaylee. And Richard Dreyfuss goes INSIDE the mothership.
KEW RAT YEN.
An alternate ending, if you turn it off early.
Proof of the existence of a benevolent higher power -- uh, I mean, new key art.
Mice.
And honestly, what more do you want? Don't answer that, I already know and it's unseemly. But I'm pretty excited here. Back to work, -j.

If this is not an occastion to break out into a happy dance, then were all dead inside this is the best news ive had today though only been awake 2 hours its a damn good start . I cant wait for this to come out now just as i couldnt wait the first time round, hopefully we in the uk won't have to wait 3 months to get the dvd like last time.

I'm going to buy this for sure if only to turn it off early for the alternent ending!! .. that freaking joss guy is hella'funny ... he should be in showbusiness ... we all need to really evangelize and buy ... all the new official merchandise available and now this new issue, me thinks folks that matter are watching this property and taking notes ... Lets give them a good whats'for ... if we cant squeeze a sequel or a return to TV out of them maybe we could at least get a High def 5.1/DTS Firefly set!!

Their one big complaint, though, about DVDs in general, is that there are No Subtitles or Close Captioning available in the Extras section. All the added documentaries, the gag reel, even the fruity Oaty Bar jingle.... they want to know what's being said.
I think it would be a ground breaking move for Joss to include either subtitles or program in Close Captioning for the Extra Features. It'll be yet another Browncoat First!

People told me not to hope. They kept telling me that Serenity did poorly in theaters (it didn't, it just didn't do great). They kept telling me that it wasn't selling very well on DVD.
I knew it was.
I checked Amazon and saw it in the top ten best sellers for 2006.
I watched as Universal sold more and more merchandising licenses to interested parties (and continues to do so.)
I observed new Browncoats popping up every day, and hundreds of conversions.
Serenity did so well that they're making a special edition.
This by no means guarantees a sequel, but GORRAM it if it doesn't bring us FRELLING closer to the possibility.

Thanks, Beth'll, but it's still an issue. The current special features don't have captioning, so they would have to be added. I've seen the Australian Special features, and I don't recall subtitles for things like Joss' Q&A session. The Movie, sure. That's common practice. The rest? Not so much.
I think this is a good cause, not just for the BDM but for Any DVD, including the FF Box set. Deaf and Hearing Impaired Folk are as entitled to know what's in the Special Bonus Features as the rest of us. I find it odd and unfair that they can't. The only reason I can think of for Studios doing this is expense. It can't really cost That much, but they save some bucks by skipping captioning on the extras. -And that's wrong.

I knew all the SLiTHER extras came Close Captioning because I had to use it to get some of the jokes in the extras.
SO I JUST CHECKED THE SERENITY DVD...AND IT IS THERE TOO!!!! CHECKED SEVERAL OF THE EXTRAS.

(I'm at work so can't run check.) The only thing I recall being mad about was no cast commentary. I can't wait for the 'official' extended gag reel! *crosses fingers and toes*

I'm remember Joss saying a while ago that he had wanted to do a commentary with all the cast. So I think it will be a Joss and cast commentary. I'm hoping that we can see it two ways...one the film with their voices...two Joss and cast on film watching the movie.

My deepest apologies to All.... tested it myself... There are subtitles in the dvd extras for Serenity... But not for the Easter Egg. So I apologize for my mistake, but Still hope that Joss adds captioning to the Easter Egg. Thanks to Anonymous1 for straightening me out about that.
I'm not sure, but my deaf friends may have been referring to the Firefly Box set, because I know there's no way to activate subtitles for the extras there. If we ever get a special edition of That, well.... along with an Apology from Fox, subtitles in the extras would be nice!

I can hardly believe they're giving us this! As has been said, I'm even more excited by what this implies: Serenity is doing well and the big-wigs notice and are beginning to see that they can capitalize on it. If this second version sells well, I think, gorramit, we may just have a shot to see that lovable firefly-class ship fly again. Now that is something that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, and a bit of butterflies in my stomach. So warm, fuzzy butterflies.

Also, I agree with an earlier comment. Blu-Ray will win the current DVD Wars. Mostly due to the fact that Blu-Ray technology is upgradeable, while HD-DVD technology as it is now is as good as it's going to be.

This is awesome! I just purchased my very first 42 inch plasma TV by Samsung. I'm re-watching all the Firefly episodes again as well as Serenity. Can't wait for the Special Edition!

Jewel hinted in her latest Myspace blog that she has done a commentary with Alan... I wonder if the that's for Serenity, even though they were not in the list. What else could it be? I guess one can only hope.

Pick up a mitsu HD1000 for 899, its an awesome projector, screens are about an extra 200 bucks from projectorpeople.com

Hmmm, wondering how I could finagle another Serenity DVD... you see, I couldn't (wasn't going to) wait 6 months for Australia sale, so I ordered got one from the US.
And as nice as a special special edition, would well and truly prefer a new Serenity movie. Don't think I am alone in that either.

The new Special Edition Serenity DVD will have the full versions of both the Serenity and Firefly Bloopers Reels!
At least, it's a dream I have....

I am so excited to be getting this next week! Not just for the extra extras, but simply for the fact that there is more. It's enough to give a person hope!
(And it's too bad that the studios don't release their DVD sales. I would bet Serenity will have one of the highest ratios of regular DVDs bought to special edition DVDs bought.)

could it be??!?? i am actually the first person posting who has actually SEEN the collector's DVD?? I noticed that I received it from Amazon a day early of the release date (tomorrow) so perhaps I am just that lucky - but I am sure somewhere someone has posted.
Not found an easter egg yet, but listened to about 1/3 of the joint commentary which is good but so far was less about the film and more just about all the fun they had (not complaining, just comparing it to Joss's). I was hoping that they might address the whole "how did the door open for River" controversy, but I skipped ahead to that scene and I don't think they covered it. I will have to listen to the whole commentary to know for sure.
But so far the highlights are the Extended Scenes and Extended Outtakes.
