It's My Party...

For the third year in a row I've turned almost 30.

I woke up today in my big bed feeling pathetic and melancholy for no good reason. It's not that I think that 28 is old, or that I wish I were 19 again. I don't miss Kamikazes by the pitcher, or black-lit bars (or more specifically, throwing up on the dance floors of black-lit bars). Maybe I just figured that I would know more by now. Maybe I thought that my boyfriend could stop watching the World Cup long enough to go out to the movies. Damn you, Ronaldinho and your enthralling curly locks!

Here I am, feeling sorry for myself in a way that only the truly comfortable can. You know, never gone hungry, never huddled in a cellar during an air raid (well, not yet)...basically lived a cushy life. My complaints are frivolous, and I accept that.

What's left to do? Crouch in a dark room singing "It's My Party" in a half-moan? Put on something with some slink, go out for drinks, and strut my stuff? (Must remember to get stuff to strut.) Run to Target to find a frame for the black velvet Elvis birthday card that I got from my roommate?

Wait just one minute. I got a freaking velvet Elvis birthday card! My life is fantastic. Off to strut now...

Happy Birthday our own Zoe!

You go strut your stuff!

We love you, we really do!

Shannon, Kati and Diane.. ( you know why I had to put Shan first right?)

Happy Birthday wishes to you, Lady! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif)

I don't have a gift per say, but a helpful idea. I know of one way to bump up the endorphins again. Proven by myself yesterday when I was in a true mood of my own. The cure you ask? Reread everything that you (your reports ROCK!) have written about MR and look at the pics. Poof, at least you'll smile for your birthday.

Ooh, ooh! And now we have another reason to gather...your birthday lunch! You, me, Kaele and anyone else we can gather around the area. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif)

As someone who has climbed the hill to thirty, reached that peak, planted my flag, and started rolling down-hill again--okay, enough with the mountain-climber metaphor--I can safely say the thirties ain't so bad. You get more respect, you become more grounded, and you can wear sky-high heels and look sophisticated, not "open for business" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)

But enjoy your twenties while you're there. It's inevitable that you will find yourself dwelling on "sheesh, almost 30!!", but it sure beats "sheesh, almost dead!!" Of course, MalN, I can tell from the way you conduct yourself around the boards that you command respect, you already seem grounded, and while I have no idea how you look in sky-high heels, if it works for you, go for it! In other words, all my advice is wasted on the likes of you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)

Happy belated birthday, and how cool that you got a black velvet Elvis card. Whoever gave you that is a STAR! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)
