I don't know who all on this board has been to Dragon*Con (Atlanta, Ga - Labor Day weekend) or who might be planning on going this year, but as I can't seem to contain my excitement over going back for my second year - I figured I'd start this thread where hopefully others will join me and the very long wait won't seem quite so bad (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif)
This year I'm hoping for an even better turnout among FF/Serenity cast and crew (it would be well worth the extra-long lines)!! Jewel, Ron, Morena, and Adam were absolutely amazing... but how wonderful would it be if everyone got to go this year? Maybe even Joss! A girl can dream (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif) |

*leaps in*
I'm hoping for a large crew of BDH's as well! Especially Nathan, Joss, Gina, and Alan, as I've yet to meet any of them! The lines this past year were extraordinarily long, and I can only imagine how long they'd be this year if that were the case, but it was well worth it. And there's nothing shinier than sitting in a line, chatting with a bunch of Browncoats you would never have met otherwise, about a verse that means to much to all of us! I could have stayed in those lines for days *g* (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) |

I was supposed to go this year, but wasn't able to... stupid hurricanes...
anyway, I would like to go next year and am going to try my hardest to make it happen. I hope I can, and I hope the cast and crew are out in full force! |

I really would like to go this year, especially if Nathan is there. It's about a 6 hour drive from here but I really don't want to drive in Atlanta traffic so I'd probably fly down. I'll have to see how thing go financially over the next few months before I can make any definitive plans. Would love to meet some of my fellow browncoats, too!

I've been going for the better part of a decade now. And I have a blast. Although the last 2 years have been the best because of meeting a bunch of fellow Browncoats (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) I had the best time working the table and shindig last year, you get to meet so many people that way.
Now you've got me all excited again. I need to go book my hotel room... |

Hee, I bet! Out of curiousity, how do you get to work at the Browncoat table and at the shindigs? Because I'd be really curious about helping out this year, if possible, or at least in finding out about helping out! |

As we get closer to the con, the Southeastern Browncoats will start to plan our events and see what we can work out with D*C. When we get the table and whatnot signed up, we'll post a call for volunteers at www.southeasternbrowncoats.org There's not much there at the moment, 'cause we're taking a break (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) eta-That's a live link, I just can't figure out how to make appear all lifelike (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_rolleyes.gif) |

So I have never been to a convention, and I am really hoping I can go to one of them...someday...lol, for those of y'all who have gone to more then one, which seems to be the best?
And what are the dates (assuming they are already up) for D*C? |

The best con really depends on your tastes. I like D*C because it is huge and has a little bit of everything. Really everything. Want to talk to NASA rocket scientists then mosey next door and chat with some nudists? Then D*C is the place for you and 30,000 of your soon to be closest friends. Just watch out for the wings, you could lose an eye (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_lol.gif)
But if you like smaller crowds or more specific topics/fandoms, you might want to try something different. The dates for D*C are Labor Day weekend every year. I think it's Sept. 1-4 this time. |

QUOTE(Dashel) Hmm Atlanta huh? I have a friend in Alpharetta GA that I could visit and probably get to come along. Can someone who has been to one before describe what it's like at a dragoncon? I can do my best (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) I went this past year and it really is one huge party!! The panels/talks are mostly during the daytime with a huge range of topics from writing, to gaming, to fandom, sci-fi/fantasy shows and movies and a little bit of everything else. Alot of people wear costumes around the clock but the majority of the costumes come out after dark and it all feels a bit like a huge Halloween party! There are many DJ'd dances, shindigs, and other parties at night so if you don't care to sleep there's plenty to do!! The hotels are all pretty good, but I highly recommend (from personal experience) staying at the Marriott Marquis (one of the host hotels).... the inside of it looks like it comes straight out of a scifi movie and though pricey, is well worth the extra expense. Plus, it's above the dealer's and exhibition halls where most of the merchandise is sold!! Hope that helps *g* |

LOL.. yes... I would be too, if I lived over there!! Starfury cons are amazing!!! (based on my VERY limited experience)... but, barring that, Dragon*Con works quite nicely as a stand-in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_mrgreen.gif) |

Calliope hit it on the head. The first time I went to D*C I was completely overwhelmed. Once the initial "OMG there are so many poeple" wore off it was great. We really do get around 30,000 people each year, total, but that's part of the charm. So many different people coming together for one hell of a party (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif) |

HI WICKEDWREN!!!! Glad to see you made it over here!
Dang, now I'm getting all smiley thinkin' bout D*C!!! I HAVE to stay more in touch with ya'all this year so I don't miss the parties! I still think a "Browncoat Floor" would be awesome....or at least a "Big Damn Suite" so we can have some place to gather for just US, not the entire con, like what happened to the Shindig.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_evil.gif) Wish I had the money to front the suite; I'd do it in a heartbeat (and then get a room down the hall so I could get *some* sleep....some of us aren't as young as we'd like to think we are, and do need at least a few hours of sleep...) Has BC1 moseyed over to this board yet? We're gonna have to get a thread started at FFF to get things rolling for this year! Can't believe it's 2006 already! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_eek.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_eek.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_eek.gif) WHEEEEEEE!!!! See you all at D*C!!! DragonCon is the name of the convention. All conventions are different. This one is a fan-run convention with lots of varying guests/attendees. I suggest you visit http://dailydragon.dragoncon.net/ the Daily Dragon (the onsite newsletter) and look at "Schedule information" at the top of the page. There are links there to PDF versions of this past year's schedule - that'll give you a good idea of how crazy things are schedule-wise. Do you like SciFi/Fantasy in general? SF books? SF TV? SF Movies? Comics? Gaming (computer/board/online)? Then there's something for you at DragonCon. I've actually been a volunteer with the con since '98. Every year it gets bigger & better. Alpharetta is in North Atlanta, but there is a MARTA station at North Springs (off 400) so you could even commute from your friend's place if you wanted (but I don't recommend it because you'll miss a LOT by doing that). |

Thanks very much tialessa. It's funny because I am fairly hardcore into PC Gaming online and have read a good deal of fantasy books, watched my share of Sci Fi but never really considered going to Dragon Con. Not quite sure why but I'll certainly check it out.
Thanks for the link! |

It does sound kind of intimidating by description and especially when you see it for the first time, but as a first-timer last year who survived and had a hell of a time while I was at it, I couldn't recommend it more! It's like stepping into this really huge, strange, and terribly cool world that you are absolutely loathe to give up by the end of it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_biggrin.gif) And all of the people you'll meet, some really awesome people, mind you, it's just ... well it's bound to quickly become a necessity on my yearly calendar *g* |
